Al Shabaab seizes military pick-up vehicle in fighting near Mogadishu

Somali armed group Al Shabaab has claimed to have seized a military pick-up with an anti-aircraft gun, after fighting near the capital of Mogadishu.

The group says its fighters had seized a military vehicle after an ambush attack on Somali military convoy near Dhanane area, some 15km south of Mogadishu.

It is unclear how many were killed in the fighting.

Somali military officials remained unavailable to reach on the phone for comments on the claims by the Al Shabaab.

Four senior Somali military officials were killed in this area for the last couple months.

The al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab has been fighting for more than ten years to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
