Car bomb rocks centre of Somali capital

A “heavy” explosion rocked central Mogadishu Thursday morning, leaving an unknown number of casualties, a security official and witnesses said.

The car bomb has gone off at a checkpoint manned by Somali security agencies near the national theatre in Mogadishu.

Two civilians killed, two injured in a car bomb blast near the national theatre, central Mogadishu on Thursday. A source says a suspect who may have parked the car on the side of the road is apprehended.

“The blast occurred at a checkpoint close to the National Theatre, we don’t have the details but there are casualties,” said Mohamed Adam, a security official.
