An 18-year-old native of Somalia has become the first English-learner from Lincoln High School to ever become a member of the National Honor Society.
Ifrah Hashi will deliver the commencement address at Lincoln’s graduation later this month. It’s quite an accomplishment considering she never set foot inside a school until she was 12 years old.
“I see so many special students in my classes. But what’s maybe a little different about Ifrah is that she has sort of done some of the things that a lot of my students might feel kind of afraid to do,” Ashley Griese, with the Lincoln English Learner Department, said.
Friday on KELOLAND News, Ifrah will share how she motivated herself to excel in the classroom despite growing up in a civil war-torn country.
