International delegation arrives in central Somali town

A delegation from the international community and organizations that support the Federal Government of Somalia arrived today in the central town of Dusamareb, the administrative capital of Galmudug State of Somalia.

The delegation is led by the United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan and the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia and head of AMISOM, Francisco Madeira.

The delegation also includes the European Union envoy to the country and the ambassadors of Turkey, Qatar, Ethiopia and Kenya.

The delegation was received at Dusamareb airport by the federal Minister of interior, Mohamed Abdi Sabriye, the leader of the moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’ah, Sheikh Mohamed Shakir and other federal and state government officials.

The delegation is expected to hold talks with Somali Prime minister Hassan Ali Kheyre and Galmudug leaders over the international community’s support for the efforts of Premier Kheyre on reconciliation and the upcoming elections in the state.
