The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has today arrived in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State to attend the second phase of the Dhusamareb Conference between the Heads of the Federal Government of Somalia and the Heads of the Member States.
The meetings, scheduled to begin on Sunday, will focus onmainly Somalia’s elections. There is a serious political rift between some regional leaders and the President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, and previous planned meetings between the two sides have failed.
Joint statement by the leaders of member states inDhuusamreeb recently declared that one person, one vote election can’t be hold at the moment in Somalia and suggested instead that the country to go indirect elections blaming the Federal government hasn’t done enough to achieve such kind of elections.
President Farmajo believes that since the election law has been adopted, the only viable electoral system is a universal franchise election in which the people ccould cast their ballots in a free and fair manner, underlining that indirect elections resulted corruption and fraud.
Political observers say it is difficult to hold elections in Somalia at this time, as enough preparation was done and therefore to avoid a political vacuum in the country, they suggest that leaders of Federal Government of Somalia and State leaders need to work together and agree on where to move.
