In a special session on the situation in Somalia,The United Nations Security Council has declared that ongoing efforts are aimed at reviving talks between the Heads of State and Government to resolve the electoral controversy.
In a closed-door meeting, members of the Security Council discussed ways to revive the Somalia talks at the Afisioni Tent after a proposal from UN Under-Secretary-General for Somalia James Swan.
Diplomats from Security Council member states have debatedon how to get rid of the calamities in Somalia based on delayed elections & the end of the term of the Heads of Federal Government.
A statement from the Norwegian delegation to the Security Council said that the The only possible way for Somalia is to resume election talks based on the September 17 agreement.
Ireland which is a member of the 15-member UN Security Council, has called on Somalia to negotiate on the elections for it to take place on time.
The ambassador of India to the United Nations TS Tirumurti on his Twitter account posted four points which he claimed he had addressed at the conference.
The four points included the return of the Federal Government and State Governments to the forum, the implementation of the September 17 agreement and the recommendations of the Baidhabo Technical Committee and that political challenges encourage Al-Shabaab and other “terrorist” groups .
The FGS Parliament suspended the September 17, 2020 agreement & the agreement reached by the Baidhabo Technical Committee on February 16, 2021 after voting in favor of the Electoral Orientation Act stipulating that a General Election be held within two years, although the resolution did not support it.
